Rabbi Jeffrey Kurtz-Lendner, Temple Solel's senior rabbi, believes that the dynamic opportunities offered by 21st Century America offer unique, creative venues for Jewish religious programming. He believes that participation in the Temple should be relaxing and enjoyable, spiritual and engaging, serious and fun. Nothing is more important to Rabbi Kurtz-Lendner than his relationships with Temple members.
A member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis since 2004, Rabbi Kurtz-Lendner was ordained in 1995 at the Jewish Theological Seminary and was a member of the Rabbinical Assembly. While working as the sole rabbi at the suburban New Orleans Northshore Jewish Congregation in Mandeville, Louisiana, Rabbi Kurtz-Lendner and his family, along with his congregation, survived the devastation of Katrina and learned first-hand the greatest lessons of being part of the Jewish Community. Rabbi Kurtz-Lendner's career also included working at the New Orleans Jewish Day School, the New Orleans Jewish Community Center and the Hillel Foundation of New Orleans at Tulane University. He currently serves as President of the Broward County Board of Rabbis, is on the Executive Board of the David Posnack Jewish Community Center and is a member of the Board of the Jewish Federation of Broward County. He is also on the steering committee of the Jewish Outreach Institute's "Big Tent Judaism" committee. In the past he has served as President of the Rabbinic Council of Greater New Orleans, Chair of the Religious Life Staff at Tulane University, President of the Hillel Professionals' Association and was an advisor to the Board of Touro Infirmary of New Orleans. He served on the Institutional Review Board at Tulane University, the ethics committee of the Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington, Louisiana and has written articles for Pocket PC Magazine. In 2000 he was featured as one of the "40 Under 40" individuals in New Orleans making a difference in the community in the New Orleans periodical, The Gambit Weekly. Rabbi Kurtz-Lendner, a native of Buffalo, NY, graduated cum laude from Brandeis University with a degree in Politics.
Rabbi Kurtz-Lendner's wife, Robin, is a native of Opelousas, Louisiana and a graduate of Boston University Law School. They are proud parents of two daughters, Leah and Abby.
Our Cantor Israel Rosen, has been musically enhancing our Temple services with his voice and guitar, since 1984. Born and raised in Israel, he comes from a long line of Cantors and was educated classically in his own father's temple choir. He furthered his Cantorial education at Israel's Sela Cantorial Institute and at New York's Yeshiva University Cantorial Institute. After leaving his studies, he became a Cantor in New York at Bayside Hills Jewish Center and at Temple Beth Shalom in Smithtown, N.Y. from 1972-1984.
In addition to preparing students for Bar and Bat Mitzvah, Cantor Rosen directs the Adult and Children's choirs and has produced our Temple CD "Sabbath and Holiday Songs" featuring both choirs. Our Cantor teaches Israeli Folk music and songs to the children as a music teacher in our Sunday religious school and he teaches the adults Israeli Dancing in our Adult Education program. Cantor Rosen performs in Cantorial programs and directs and performs in musical perormances for Temple functions.
Robin Miller has joined Temple Solel as our Executive Director. Prior to joining Temple Solel , Robin worked for Non Profit agencies in Broward County for the past 24 years. Her past program and Executive management positions working for both the Soref Jewish Community Center and the Broward County YMCA bring her many years of experience to Temple Solel. Robin and her husband Mark live in Coral Springs and are the proud parents of son, Allen.
Karen Kaye has been the Director of Religious Education at Temple Solel for 10 years. Prior to working at Temple Solel, Karen worked for United Synagogue of America and as a Jewish camp director. Before moving to Florida, Karen spent 21 years traveling around the globe with her husband who was a career Air Force Officer. At every location they were assigned, Karen helped create and establish Jewish religious schools and Jewish family programs.
TEMPLE SOLEL, HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA
Rabbi Robert P. Frazin is Temple Solel’s Founding Rabbi Emeritus having been the senior rabbi at and spiritual leader of Temple Solel for 37 years until his retirement in June, 2007. Although now Rabbi Emeritus, Rabbi Frazin still maintains an office at Temple Solel and continues to be active in the Broward Jewish community and Hollywood, Florida community as a whole.
Rabbi Frazin is a native of Chicago and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University. He was ordained as a Rabbi from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio and holds a Bachelor of Hebrew Letters and a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters from the College Institute, as well as a Doctor of Divinity degree from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.
Active in both Jewish and community affairs, Rabbi Frazin is a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis and Broward Board of Rabbis (having served as President in 1975-76), and affiliated with the Southeast Association of the Central Conference of American Rabbis and the Rabbinical Association of Greater Miami. He is also Vice President of the Southeast Region of the American Friends of Magen Daveed Adom (ARMDI), a member of the Board of Directors of the Southeast Holocaust Documentation and Learning Center, Co-Chair of the Planning Committee of the Broward County Jewish Federation, Co-Chair of the Federation's Tikkun Olam (Repair the World) Committee, a member of the Executive Board and Board of Directors of the Federation, President of the Inter-Faith Council of Greater Hollywood and South Broward County, a member of the "Green Team," the Environmental Committee of the City of Hollywood, Florida, and a member of the Diversity Advisory Council of Broward County. Always active in education, Rabbi Frazin is an adjunct professor at Broward Community College and teaches in the Lifelong Learning Institute at Nova Southeastern University.
Rabbi Frazin is married to the former Susan (Penny) Banks of Canton, Ohio, and both Penny and he are the proud parents of two sons, Jeff and Danny, and a daughter, Julie, and are the proud grandparents of four grandchildren.
President of the Board of Directors
As Temple President, Joseph Stadlen Chairs the Executive Board and Board of Directors. He is responsible for ensuring Temple Solel’s core mission of being the Reform Jewish spiritual home and place of community in the heart of Hollywood through the service of its Clergy, Staff and numerous volunteers.
Mr. Stadlen has served on the board since 2004 and as Chair of the House Committee since 2006. He has been involved in the temple since 1980 when he attended Hebrew school in 1st grade. A true Hollywood native, Mr. Stadlen is the first ‘second generation’ President having grown up in the Solel family.
Looking to the future of Temple Solel, Mr. Stadlen’s four goals for the board to accomplish during his term as President are:
1. Association - Create a welcome environment for all who walk through our doors.
2. Education - Enhance Solel’s educational system so that it is second to none.
3. Communication - Boldly embrace technology to connect with our congregation.
4. Participation - Continue to build upon our culture of volunteerism
Mr. Stadlen is the President of Intertech Construction Corporation, a Hollywood based family owned construction firm that specializes in the commercial construction of restaurants and stores throughout the US & Caribbean. In 1997 Intertech Construction Corp. was the general contractor that remodeled Solel’s main sanctuary and social hall.
